Excess baggage
Do you need to travel with extra, heavy, or bulky bags? No problem! Here is what you need to know.
Our standard baggage allowance includes one carry-on bag and one to two pieces of checked baggage per person, depending on the class of travel and/or your Club Tiare status.
But you may need a little extra space to leave perfectly equipped for your trip, or to bring back souvenirs.
On all flights operated by Air Tahiti Nui, the purchase of additional, oversized, or overweight bags can be done at any time:
- You can choose to purchase them online during the ticket booking process or later by accessing the "Manage my booking" section.
- Alternatively, you can purchase them in one of our Air Tahiti Nui agencies or with your travel agency.
- You can also purchase them directly at the check-in counter on the day of your departure.
Are you traveling on a flight operated by one of our codeshare partners or another airline ?
We invite you to visit the website of the airline operating your flight or contact your travel agent, as their bag policies may be different.
If the baggage rules vary during the same trip, we recommend that you comply with the most restrictive conditions for your checked bag as well as for your hand bag.
When should I request excess baggage?
We want to ensure that your travel experience with Air Tahiti Nui is as enjoyable and stress-free as possible. That's why we've provided some helpful information regarding excess baggage.
Your bag allowance is indicated on your airline ticket. If you're traveling with certain medical equipment or accessories for children, you may be able to carry them at no extra charge.
And because music and sport are an integral part of the Polynesian experience, Air Tahiti Nui also offers free carriage of items like ukuleles, acoustic guitars, and selected sporting equipment. These items are subject to safety and security constraints. Please see our website for a full list of eligible items.
For any additional bag or bag exceeding the maximum weight and dimensions, you'll need to purchase an excess baggage allowance.
And if you're a Club Tiare member, you can use your miles for an excess bag award regardless of your status.
Please note that the maximum weight for any checked bag is 32kg, regardless of your class of travel. Passengers traveling in Moana Premium and Moana Economy classes may be subject to additional fees if their bag exceeds the 23kg allowance for these classes.
If your checked bag exceeds 32kg or its dimensions exceed 200cm (height + length + width), please contact our Freight service.
Finally, please be aware that for all flights departing from or arriving in the United States or Canada, the US Department of Transportation and the Canadian Transportation Agency require that the baggage allowance and excess charges of the Most Significant Carrier are to be applied to the entire itinerary, including stopovers.
Air Tahiti Nui offers a baggage allowance based on the number of bags, called "Piece Concept".
Other airlines offer a baggage allowance based on the weight: "Weight Concept" particularly on flights to and from Australia.
