Air Tahiti Nui offers special assistance to passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility. In order for us to best meet your needs for special assistance, please make your request when you book your ticket, and at least 48 hours before your departure.
Special assistance is only available on flights operated by Air Tahiti Nui. If your flight is operated by one of our partner airlines, the rules and regulations of the operating partner airline apply. For more information, do not hesitate to contact our sales advisers.
Air Tahiti Nui accepts pregnant women without restrictions until the 6th month of pregnancy.
From the 30th to 35th week of pregnancy, a medical certificate issued within 7 days before the travel date is mandatory.
Beyond the 35th week of pregnancy, a pregnant woman cannot be accepted on board.
For safety reasons, all passengers must be properly seated and fastened during the flight. The purchase of an extra seat is NOT mandatory for corpulent passengers but gives guarantee to travel on the desired date. If the passenger decides not to buy an extra seat, acceptance is subject to availability on board the day of operation of the flight.
Wheelchair or personal mobility device
Air Tahiti Nui authorizes the transportation of wheelchair or personal mobility device (manual or electric*) at no extra cost. There is no size or weight limit; however, it is possible that certain airports lack the necessary means for boarding or exiting the aircraft.
*Air Tahiti Nui transports 2 types of wheelchairs:
In most airports, you can keep your wheelchair up to the aircraft opening or boarding gate if access to the aircraft is not direct via a walkway. In other cases, your manual wheelchair will be delivered to you as soon as you exit the aircraft or enter the terminal.
At time of reservation, please specify the type of wheelchair, its dimensions, its weight, as well as whether it is foldable. This will help us prepare for its transport in the best possible conditions.
Regardless of the kind of electric wheelchair, as a general rule, you must check it in as baggage. Your electric wheelchair will be returned to you at baggage delivery.
For this reason, we recommend that you also request wheelchair assistance at time of booking if necessary.
At time of reservation, please specify its dimensions and weight, as well as the battery type. If you do not provide this information, transportation may be declined if your wheelchair´s battery type does not allow for safe transport.
Air Tahiti Nui offers assistance wheelchairs to take you from check-in counter to the aircraft, and then from the aircraft to the airport exit. Please request your assistance wheelchair at time of booking.
Air Tahiti Nui provides an onboard wheelchair that is designed to circulate in aircraft aisles and access the restrooms during the flight.
Air Tahiti Nui may require the presence of a travel companion for the safety of disabled or reduced-mobility passengers. His or her role is to assist in case of an emergency, particularly in the case of aircraft evacuation. A travel companion is required only in the following cases:
- If the passenger has a severe mental disability that prevents him or her from understanding and applying safety instructions.
- If the passenger is both blind and deaf, thereby preventing the possibility of communication with the crew.
- If the passenger has a motor-based disability that physically prevents him or her from participating in an evacuation.
Most paraplegics and people with paralysis or who are missing both arms can therefore travel without a travel companion. However, a travel companion is mandatory for most quadriplegics.
The travel companion must meet the following requirements:
- Be over the age of 18 and autonomous
- Not taking care of a disabled or reduced-mobility passenger while also taking care of a child under the age of 5 or another disabled or reduced-mobility passenger
All Air Tahiti Nui aircraft carry sharps containers for safe disposal of syringes and needles.
Please speak with your cabin crew member.
Used medical equipment must not be placed into seat pockets or anywhere as this is dangerous for other people.
If your medication is required to be kept chilled, seek advice from your pharmacist. You will need to provide a suitable container with the cooling agent (ice or dry ice) inside. Our staff cannot take care of medication or store it in aircraft refrigerators.
Please note Dangerous Goods regulations state that dry ice containers cannot contain more than 2kg of dry ice and must not be sealed. A small vent is required to allow the carbon dioxide gas to escape.
Respiratory aid devices (such as portable oxygen concentrators, ventilators, etc.) are authorized in the cabin at no extra charge, in addition to your regular carry-on allowance, as long as they meet the following conditions:
- FAA approved for air transport
- Maximum wattage of 140W
- Maximum voltage of 110V
- The passenger must be able to carry his/her respiratory device with a shoulder strap
You can plug them into the electrical outlets located at your seat in Poerava Business or Moana Premium class.
Please note that only the following respiratory aid devices are allowed:
- Inogen One G3
- Simply Go
- Eclipse 5
However, we recommend charging your device's batteries before the flight, and bringing extra batteries, to ensure an independent source of power should electrical outlets be deactivated during the flight. Please note that lithium batteries are subject to certain conditions of carriage available on the 'Regulated Baggage' section of our "Baggage Policies".
