ANIMALS IN CABIN

Acceptance conditions of animals in cabin

  • Only cats and dogs (for other animal, please contact our Cargo Service)
  • Weight lower or equal to 5 kg max.
  • Transported in an adequat container which can be accommodated under the seat (8 kg max all in all, by including the container) and the maximum dimensions of which are L40cm x l35cm x h20cm
  • 2 small-sized animals can be transported in the same container provided that there is enough place  to move freely and provided that the total weight is respected (8Kg).
  • Respect for the applicable sanitary and veterinary requirements in the countries of departure, transit and destination (certificates).

We strongly recommend that you provide us with information regarding weight, sanitary and veterinarian certificates at time of reservation and no later than 48 hours before departure. This will help us prepare for your pet transport in the best conditions. Be advised the number of pets accepted onboard is limited and subject to availability.
 

 

The rules for pet transport vary depending on your departure country and destination.

Air Tahiti Nui accepts animals transported in cabin accompanied with their owners only: from Los Angeles to Paris / Paris to Los Angeles / Papeete to Los Angeles /  Papeete to Paris.

  • Los Angeles to Paris: USD150.00 one way.
  • Paris to Los Angeles: EUR150.00 one way.
  • Papeete to Los Angeles: XPF14,000 one way.
  • Papeete to Paris XPF24,000 one way
     

Important information

Your animal will have to stay in its container during all the flight and it until its arrival in the Terminal. Payment at the check in counter the applicable excess baggage charges based on the 3rd piece. For any dog and cat weighing more than 5 kg and for any category of pets, the transport in hold is compulsory. Please then contact Air Tahiti Nui Air Cargo service.

 

Animals not allowed

We remind you that the French law n°2008-582 of June 20, 2008 prohibits the transportation of dogs of 1st category* liable to be dangerous dogs.

*Pitt Bulls, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Broholmer, German mastiff, Majorca mastiff, Bordeaux mastiff, Bulldog, Bullmastiff, Mastiff, Neapolitan Mastiff, Italian Cane Corso and Tosa.

 This ban applies even to a dog crossed with one of these races.

SERVICE ANIMALS

The transport of assistance animals in the cabin is free of charge and must respect the conditions of acceptance and carriage:

  • Only cats and dogs are allowed on Air Tahiti Nui flights
  • The care and supervision of the service animal is solely your responsibility
  • It must comply with all sanitary/hygiene requirements in the departure, arrival and transit countries.
  • You must be able to provide proof (including credible verbal proof) of the animal’s certification and its use.
  • They are not required to be harnessed, leashed or tethered except during taxi, take off, turbulence and landing.
  • It cannot obstruct the aisles inside the aircraft and must be well-behaved in all circumstances.
  • You will be offered a seat with the most space possible depending on space availability at the booking time, but your dog may not occupy a seat.
  • Air Tahiti Nui does not accept service animals under 4 months of age.

Important

  • Please inform us of your intention to transport your service animal at least 48 hours before your departure
  • Your animal will only be allowed in the cabin after a visual verification at the airport.
  • Throughout your trip, please keep a copy of all the documents requested with you.

Assistance Animals

An “assistance animal” is defined as “any animal individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability”. Common tasks include:

  • Guiding a person who is blind
  • Alerting a person who is deaf to various sounds
  • Pulling a wheelchair and fetching items for a person with reduced mobility
  • Alerting a person with epilepsy to an imminent seizure
  • Alerting a person with diabetes to high and low blood sugar

A maximum of three (3) assistance animasl is accepted per passenger.

Mandatory documents:

  • Up-to-date vaccination book
  • Good Health Certificate delivered by the vet (established no later than 72h before departure)
  • Sanitary Certificate (delivered in Tahiti by the Rural Development Department of French Polynesia valid for 4 months from the date of issue)
  • Identification tattoo or electronic microchip
  • Entry or transit permit

Emotional Support Animals

If you have a recognized emotional, psychiatric, cognitive or psychological condition that makes it necessary for you to be with your animal during flights, you can transport your emotional support animal in the cabin free of charge on Air Tahiti Nui flights. You are limited to one (1) emotional support animal.

Mandatory documents:

  • Up-to-date vaccination book
  • Good Health Certificate delivered by the vet (established no later than 72h before departure)
  • Sanitary Certificate (delivered in Tahiti by the Rural Development Department of French Polynesia valid for 4 months from the date of issue)
  • Identification tattoo or electronic microchip
  • Entry or transit permit
  • A medical certificate from a licensed mental health professional (psychiatrist, psychologist…). This certificate must be less than 1 year old justifying why you need a service animal; the type of mental health professional’s license, and the state or other jurisdiction in which it was issued
