New simplified entry requirements to French Polynesia. Kindly review the corresponding section below.
- French Polynesia - Travel is now open to both vaccinated AND unvaccinated passengers. Masks are no longer required on board (however, LAX airport still has a mask requirement). Please review the French Polynesia Entry Requirements section below for further details.
- CDC return entrance to the US - Effective December 6th all passengers entering the US must have a negative RT-PCR or Antigen test taken within 1 day of departure.
- France – Effective from February 11th, 2022, travel is open to both vaccinated AND unvaccinated passengers.
- Effective from February 2nd, when a traveler has completed a full vaccination (1 dose Janssen or 2 doses Pfizer / Moderna / Astrazeneca / Novavax ), a booster shot is required before travelling to France if the last dose is 9 months or older. If the last dosage was prior to 9 months, and travel to France is within 9 months, a booster shot is not required.

Tahiti, Paris, and Auckland are open – Tokyo remains suspended
The Islands of Tahiti are open to travel from the United States effective May 1st, 2021. Please click on the Entry Requirements to French Polynesia tab below for must read information.
Flights From Los Angeles to Auckland via Tahiti are open starting May 4th, 2022.
Flights from Papeete to Tokyo are suspended through November, 2022.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRANCE TO FRENCH POLYNESIA
The re-opening of the French Polynesian International borders, are subject to the conditions listed below for vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers:
If vaccinated - travelers departing from the United States, Canada, and Mexico must show at the check-in counter before departure :
- Proof of "complete vaccination schedule" (CDC vaccination card).
- A person is considered fully vaccinated 7 days after receiving the second dose of Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, or Novavax.
- A person is considered fully vaccinated 28 days after receiving the dose of Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine.
- When a traveler has completed a full vaccination (1 dose Janssen or 2 doses Pfizer / Moderna / Astrazeneca / Novavax ), a booster shot is required before travelling to French Polynesia if the last dose is 9 months or older. If the last dosage was prior to 9 months, and travel to French Polynesia is within 9 months , a booster shot is not required.
- Vaccinated Travelers are no longer required to present a negative Antigen or RT-PCR test prior to departure to Tahiti.
If unvaccinated - travelers aged 12 and over departing from the United States and Mexico must show at the check-in counter before departure :
- A negative RT-PCR test carried out within 72 hours (3 days) of departure or a negative Antigen test carried out within 48 hours (2 days) of departure. Travelers 11 years and under do not need a pre-departure Covid test.
- The test results must clearly state:- A negative result
- Test type being RT-PCR or Antigen
- Date test taken
- Name of individual/passenger
- The medical document must be issued by a Doctor, Hospital or Medical Clinic and must be presented to airline staff upon check-in prior to boarding the flight to French Polynesia
- Antibody, Self-Testing, and Home Testing, are not accepted by the Health Authorities of French Polynesia and aircraft boarding will be denied.
Please note: Children aged up to 11 years are not required to show the above documents and are ok to travel with an accompanying adult who falls into any of these categories.
Customers who fail to comply with any of the above mandatory health measures will not be allowed to board.

The entry requirements applicable to vaccinated adults also applies to minors (up to and including the age of 17) accompanying them, whether they are vaccinated or not.
Travel documents for vaccinated travelers:
- Proof of vaccination. Must prove that a person is fully vaccinated. Children aged 11 and younger traveling with a vaccinated adult are exempt from vaccination and Covid testing requirements.
- Seven days after the second dose for two-dose vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria and Covishield), Novavax);
- 28 days after the shot for one-shot vaccines (Johnson & Johnson);

- A completed Public Health Passenger Locator Form, which can be downloaded here
- Vaccinated Travelers are no longer required to present a negative Antigen or RT-PCR test prior to departure to Paris;
Passengers aged 17 and under, traveling with a vaccinated person, do not need to show a proof of vaccination. Unvaccinated minors aged 12 and older, traveling with a vaccinated person, must present a negative Covid test before departure (Antigen test taken 48 hours before departure, or RT-PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure).
Travel documents for non-vaccinated travelers aged 12 and older arriving from designated "Green zone" countries :
- A negative Covid antigen test taken within 48 hours of departure or a negative RT-PCR test within 72 hours.
- A completed Public Health Passenger Locator Form, which can be downloaded here
- Travelers may be subject to a random test when they arrive in France.
In all cases, the usual travel restrictions apply (visas, duration of stay, etc.).

CDC ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS TO THE US
CDC rules for Covid-19 testing:
Prior to departure (returning in United States only)
- Beginning January 26, 2021, the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) requires all passengers 2 years of age or older on a flight to the United States, regardless of their immunization status, to present at check-in :
- A negative result from a Covid-19 viral test carried out within 1 day prior to their international flight
- Or, in the case of a previous Covid-19 infection within the last 90 days prior to departure, a positive viral test result, along with an official letter from a physician indicating that the passenger has made a full recovery and is authorized to travel
- The CDC Covid-19 test required is a viral test of any of the following:
The test must be a viral test. The following types of viral COVID-19 tests can be used: Nucleic acid amplification tests (NAAT) In addition to NAAT, phrases indicating a NAAT† could include, but are not limited to: • Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) • Quantitative PCR (qPCR) • Reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) • Transcription-mediated amplification (TMA) • Molecular test or molecular diagnostic test • Isothermal amplification • Droplet Digital PCR or digital droplet PCR (ddPCR) • Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)
- Self-testing kits ordered from emed (https://www.emed.com/airline-travel) are now approved for use by the CDC. These will be accepted by Air Tahiti Nui, within the CDC guidelines found on the emed website. The test type is the Abbott's BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag test detecting active COVID-19 infections and FDA authorized home test for SARS-CoV-2. These test kits must be ordered in the United States prior to departure.

For travelers who could not carry out their test before reaching the international airport, antigenic testing is available at Tahiti Faa’a Airport. Hours of operation in December 2021 are:
o Monday & Thursday – 4:30AM to 7:00AM and 2PM to 8:30PM
o Tuesday Wednesday & Friday – 2PM to 8:30PM
o Saturday – 7:30AM to 8:30PM
o Sunday – 5:30AM to 11:00AM
We encourage you to make arrangements with the selected pharmacy for testing.
Passengers may also obtain a test at the Louis Malardé Institute In Papeete. Their website address is listed here https://www.ilm.pf/ and their hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturdays. Appointment not necessary.

In the event of a positive test result, CDC rules prohibit onward travel to the United States. Passengers must then the follow the protocol and rules of the Ministry of Health, which require up to a 10-day quarantine at the traveler’s expense. The re-opening of the New Zealand's International borders is subject to the conditions listed below for vaccinated travelers:
Please check the entry requirements posted on the New Zealand's Unite Against Covid-19 website for the most up-to-date information.
Unvaccinated travelers will not be able to enter New Zealand unless they have an exemption approval.
Children 16 years and under do not need to be vaccinated.
Vaccinated travelers departing from the United States - Airport Checklist:
- Proof of "complete vaccination schedule" for passengers 17 years and older (CDC vaccination card). Children 16 and under, accompanied by a vaccinated adult are not required to be vaccinated.
- For all travelers 2 years and above, a negative RT-PCR test carried out within 48 hours (2 days) of departure OR a negative Antigen test carried out within 24 hours (1 day) of departure. Travelers 1 year and under do not need a pre-departure Covid test.
- The test results must clearly state:- A negative result
- Test type being RT-PCR or Antigen
- Date test taken
- Name of individual/passenger
- The medical document must be issued by a Doctor, Hospital or Medical Clinic and must be presented to airline staff upon check-in prior to boarding the flight to New Zealand
- Antibody, Self-Testing, and Home Testing, are not accepted by the Health Authorities of New Zealand and aircraft boarding will be denied for departure to New Zealand.
- Download and complete the “New Zealand Traveller Declaration”, and present it at check-in.
- NZeTA visa (including for transit passengers)
- Pay the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) of NZD $35
- Download and complete the Sworn Statement to enter French Polynesia (in transit to New Zealand)
