10 Reasons to Visit Paris in Winter

Visit Paris in the Winter!  The “City of Lights” is famous for its rich culture and history, as well as its cuisine, architecture, artists and districts.  There are endless activities to do in Paris, and special winter activities.  Below is a list of the top things to do in Paris this winter.

1. Boat Tour on the Seine

What better way to view Paris than from its infamous river. Take in all Paris has to offer from a different perspective by hopping on this boat and discovering Paris from the water. Float past Notre Dame, and famous museums like Musée D’Orsay and the Louvre, and of course the majestic Eiffel Tower.

2. See the lights

While this city is already known for its lights, come see it in all its glory. As the city embraces the Christmas feel, watch the endless lights twinkle as you walk the streets or along the Seine. Or for a beautiful view, go on top of the Arc de Triomphe or climb the Eiffel Tower. From anywhere, the city will sparkle and create a magical experience this winter.

3. Palais Garnier

While it might be cold outside, the Palais Garnier will warm you up and astound your senses. Enter the beautiful opera house for a tour of this historic building, or purchase tickets to an opera or beautiful ballet performance.

4. Christmas Markets

Feel like you’ve been transported to a winter wonderland as you walk through the Christmas Markets throughout Paris. Shop the huts, munch on roasted chestnuts or drink some mulled wine, known as ‘vin chaud’ in French. This experience will brighten your holiday season.

5. Galeries Lafayette

During the holiday season, all of Paris gets into the Christmas spirit. Each year this large department store chain embraces a new theme. Every time you can see with a giant Christmas tree hanging from the middle of the shopping mall. Enjoy the tree, the window displays, and buy some gifts while you’re there. Then, ride the escalators all the way to the top to see a unique view of Paris.

6. Ice Skating

Each Winter, Paris sets up a few ice-skating rinks. Different locations include at Hotel Plaza Athénée, or in front of Hôtel de Ville, which is the city hall of Paris. Embrace the cold and enjoy this fun outside activity.

7. Museums

You can also hide from the cold and view artwork of the many Paris museums. Whether you want to spend the day in the largest museum in the world, the Louvre, or visit smaller iconic museums such as Musée D’Orsay, or Musée de l'Orangerie (which contains Monet’s infamous water lilies), there is no shortage of museums with wonderous pieces inside.

8. Sainte-Chapelle

A beautiful and unique building is Saint Chapelle. It is completely stained glass. Stand inside this amazing building, watch the light enter and see the stained-glass twinkle and glisten in all its colors. It will be sure to amaze.

9. Shopping

Paris is known for its brands and shopping opportunities. If you are arriving during the holiday season, grab unique and memorable gifts for those back home. If you are visiting during January and February, take advantage of the amazing seasonal sales. If you happen to be in Paris during February or March, experience the city during Fashion Week. No matter the day, visit the infamous Champs Elysees for luxury shopping. If you are there during the Christmas season, witness the beautiful lights along the street as well.

10. Eat & Drink in a cozy Parisian Café

Sit and watch the City of Lights from the comfort of a warm café while indulging in comfort food and drink. Since most visit during the hotter seasons, this gives an opportunity to see Paris when there aren’t as many tourists running around. Find some warm, cheesy fondue inside a beautiful restaurant or enjoy some hot chocolate at Angelina’s. Drink it either in its beautiful restaurant or take it to go and stroll the city.
