When you travel to/from the US, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) provides travel tips on TSA website: www.tsa.gov for information and advisories before your trip.

A baggage irregularity report must be completed in writing by the passenger upon arrival or within 7 days of flight arrival, at the baggage service claim at the respective airport for any delayed, lost or damaged check baggage.
For damaged claims, the damaged article(s) are required to be inspected by Air Tahiti Nui or its representative personnel at the time of the claim.

You can transport a funerary urn in the cabin or in the hold.
The urn must be sealed and packed in a discreet container.
For international travel, you are required to have in your possession a certificate from the crematorium and a certified copy of the original death certificate.
To facilitate the security checks at the airport, we recommend you the use of a plastic urn rather than metal.

Note: In the USA, the American authorities can require that the urn is transported in the hold.
