Air Tahiti Nui declines all responsibility if your animal is refused transportation due to non-compliance with our requirements, or if your animal is refused upon arrival due to non-compliance with the requirements established by the destination country.
ANIMALS IN CABIN
Acceptance conditions of animals in cabin
- Only cats and dogs (for other animal, please contact our Cargo Service)
- Weight lower or equal to 8 kg max (container weight included)
- Transported in an adequat container which can be accommodated under the seat (8 kg max all in all, by including the container) and the maximum dimensions of which are L40cm x l35cm x h20cm
- 2 small-sized animals can be transported in the same container provided that there is enough place to move freely and provided that the total weight is respected (8Kg).
- Respect for the applicable sanitary and veterinary requirements in the countries of departure, transit and destination (certificates).
We strongly recommend that you provide us with information regarding weight, sanitary and veterinarian certificates at time of reservation and no later than 48 hours before departure. This will help us prepare for your pet transport in the best conditions. Be advised the number of pets accepted onboard is limited and subject to availability.
The rules for pet transport vary depending on your departure country and destination.
Air Tahiti Nui accepts animals transported in cabin accompanied with their owners only: from Los Angeles to Paris / Paris to Los Angeles / Papeete to Los Angeles / Papeete to Paris.

- Los Angeles to Paris: USD150.00 one way
- Paris to Los Angeles: EUR150.00 one way
- Papeete to Los Angeles: XPF14,000 one way
- Papeete to Seattle: XPF14,000 one way
- Papeete to Paris XPF24,000 one way
Important information
Your animal will have to stay in its container during all the flight and it until its arrival in the Terminal. Payment at the check-in counter the applicable excess baggage charges based on the 3rd piece. For any dog and cat weighing more than 8 kg and for any category of pets, the transport in hold is compulsory. Please then contact Air Tahiti Nui Air Cargo service.
Animals not allowed
We remind you that the French law n°2008-582 of June 20, 2008 prohibits the transportation of dogs of 1st category* liable to be dangerous dogs.
*Pitt Bulls, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Broholmer, German mastiff, Majorca mastiff, Bordeaux mastiff, Bulldog, Bullmastiff, Mastiff, Neapolitan Mastiff, Italian Cane Corso and Tosa.
This ban applies even to a dog crossed with one of these races.
SERVICE ANIMALS
The transport of assistance animals in the cabin is free of charge and must respect the conditions of acceptance and carriage:
- A maximum of either two (2) service dogs or 1 service cat are allowed on Air Tahiti Nui flights
- The care (toileting, feeding, grooming, veterinary) and supervision of the service animal is solely your responsibility
- It must comply with all sanitary/hygiene requirements in the departure, arrival and transit countries.
- It cannot obstruct the aisles inside the aircraft and must be well-behaved in all circumstances.
- Air Tahiti Nui can refuse transportation to service animals that exhibit aggressive behavior and/or pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others.
- You will be offered a seat with the most space possible depending on space availability at the booking time, but your dog may not occupy a seat but fit into the individual’s allotted space without encroaching into the space of another passenger.
- Air Tahiti Nui does not accept service animals under 4 months of age.
- At any time, any TN staff or its representative may require that service animals be harnessed, leashed or tethered whenever they find it justified for the well-being of other passengers and the crew. Refusing to comply with such a request may be grounds for denied boarding.
Important
- Please inform us of your intention to transport your service animal and provide us the DOT service animal forms at least 48 hours before your departure
- Your animal will only be allowed in the cabin after a visual verification at the airport.
- Throughout your trip, please keep a copy of all the documents requested with you.

Assistance Animals
An “assistance animal” is defined as “any animal individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability”. Common tasks include:
- Guiding a person who is blind
- Alerting a person who is deaf to various sounds
- Pulling a wheelchair and fetching items for a person with reduced mobility
- Alerting a person with epilepsy to an imminent seizure
- Alerting a person with diabetes to high and low blood sugar
- Help the person on the move in case of dizziness
- Remind the person to take their medication when they have memory loss
- Call emergency services as needed
Mandatory documents:
- Up-to-date vaccination book
- Good Health Certificate delivered by the vet
- Sanitary Certificate (delivered in Tahiti by the Rural Development Department of French Polynesia valid for 4 months from the date of issue)
- Identification tattoo or electronic microchip
- Entry or transit permit (delivered in Tahiti by the Rural Development Department of French Polynesia valid for 4 months from the date of issue)

Emotional Support Animals
US DOT Final Rule: Carriers are no longer required to recognize emotional support animals as service animals and may be subject to PETC or Cargo policies.
