Entry Requirements | Health & Safety Measures

Effective 03 February 2021, entry to French Polynesia is prohibited for all travellers except those travelling for the following reasons:

  • an overriding personal or family reason,
  • an emergency health reason,
  • a professional reason that cannot be postponed


An exceptional travel certificate must be accompanied by supporting documentation.  Travellers must also complete a declaration that they will adhere to the rules related to entry into French Polynesia.  Copies of the required forms can be downloaded below.  More information on the above regulations can be viewed from the following link to the State Services in French Polynesia website.


Any traveller who complies with the new entry requirements must also comply with the following regulations to enter French Polynesia:

  • Proof of a negative Covid-19 test (SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR virus genome only) carried out within three days prior to their international air departure. The results of this test must be negative and the medical document confirming this, issued by a Doctor, Hospital or Medical Clinic must be presented to airline staff at check-in prior to boarding the flight to French Polynesia for all passengers aged 11 years and over. To ease the check-in procedures, we encourage you to upload your test results in advance via our online COVID-19 formNote:  where passengers can show proof that they applied for the RT-PCR test within the designated time frame but have not yet received the results of this test, they may still be permitted to board if they can show proof of a negative Rapid Antigenic Test taken within 48 hours of flight departure.
  • Complete a Sanitary Entry Form via the Electronic Travel Information System (ETIS).  A printed copy of the approval must be shown to the airline at check-in.  This is a statement of commitment to follow sanitary measures and reporting to the authorities of any symptom of COVID-19 that may occur during your stay (cough, fever, difficulty to breathe, loss of taste, loss of smell).  More information can be found on the Tahiti Tourisme website
  • In addition to the above, a temperature check will be taken at check-in for the flight to ensure the passenger temperature is below 38°C


If you fail to comply with any of the above mandatory health measures, you will not be allowed to board the aircraft.   These entry conditions may differ to those imposed by other countries.  Please ensure that you are aware of all entry conditions for your entire itinerary.


Quarantine in French Polynesia

  • Upon arrival in French Polynesia visitors will complete a 14-day quarantine at a dedicated site in Tahiti at the expense of the passenger.  
  • A COVID-19 test will be performed after 12 days of isolation before discharge on day 14 provided a negative result is received. 


Note: It is possible to complete the 14-day quarantine at home but only where prior approval is sought and granted at least 72 hours before flight departure.  Certain conditions must be met and permission can only be given by the High Commission of the Republic in French Polynesia.

We collaborate with health authorities, airports, and suppliers to observe these commitments throughout your journey.

Physical distancing

The sanitary measures adopted by Air Tahiti Nui and the airports actively contribute to limiting the spread of the virus. The specific measures to maintain physical distance in all waiting areas must be respected and include ground markings and signage. The contactless check-in counters are also designed to limit the risks.

Mandatory mask

Masks are compulsory for everyone at the airport. The wearing of a mask is required at airports and on board, for the duration of the flight for all passengers, excluding children under 11 years. Failure to comply with this measure on board is considered an offense and will be subject to penalty. All our crew on board and on the ground are also equipped with surgical masks.

Sanitary kit

Air Tahiti Nui provides customers with a health kit including 2 surgical masks, a bottle of hydroalcoholic gel and disinfectant wipes.

To ensure proper hygiene in airports, hydroalcoholic gel dispensers are also available throughout your journey.

Cleaning and disinfection measures

The hygiene on board is at the centre of our priorities. The procedure for cleaning and disinfecting our devices is reinforced at the start and at the finish of each route, using specific measures against the coronavirus. Thorough cleaning of our cabins and strict sanitary rules imposed on our various suppliers also allow us to limit the risks of contamination via our equipment and services on board.

During the flight, our crew are taking care of the cabins, with more frequent cleaning of all common areas using a specific disinfectant. As an example, our bathrooms are cleaned every 30 minutes. Passengers are requested to limit moving around the cabin as much as possible in order to maintain physical distance and the cleanliness of the cabins.

Cabin air filtration

Our latest generation 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft are equipped with a high-performance air filtration system, effective for removing particles, bacteria and viruses. The cabin air flow does not circulate from one row to the other, and the air is renewed every 2 to 3 minutes.

This system is equipped with filters identical to those employed in hospitals and manage to capture and block up to 99.995% of bacteria and viruses in the cabin. This air purification system guarantees a significant reduction in the risk of contamination by air on board. However, to avoid any risk, we ask our passengers to wear a mask for the entire duration of the flight.

Hygiene on board

Simplified on-board services

The on-board catering offer has been simplified to limit contact. The aperitif and meal services are combined. Meals are provided in a single passage in all travel classes and concentrated in a single tray service, including desserts for Poerava Business class. The choice of wines and drinks is also reduced with the same purpose: limiting interactions and serving time. Finally, the choice of special meals is also limited to facilitate the service on board.

For the same purpose, the magazines on board have been removed, excluding the safety card - modified for single use only. However, a selection of press and magazines, in-flight magazines and meal service menus can be viewed on our entertainment system. The duty-free service on board is suspended. However, this service remains available at the airport shop upon your arrival in Tahiti
